An internal comms strategy for Close Brothers

Close Brothers is a leading UK merchant banking group providing lending, deposit taking, wealth management services and securities trading. Established in 1878, Close Brothers Group employs approximately 4,000 people across 54 offices. It’s listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a member of the FTSE 250.

The challenge

Close Brothers approached UKSV to create an internal communications strategy that would support the roll-out and day-to-day delivery of its overall commercial strategy. The company needed focused, relevant and timely internal communications, sharing best practices in real-time across the country in an engaging but cost-effective way. 

The solution

After leading a series of workshops with key stakeholders and a team of representative employees from across the business, we were able to get a thorough understanding of the business's commercial strategic goals and to assess employees’ needs. We also carried out a six-week audit of Close Brother’s existing communications channels to understand how effective the current engagement touch points were. We then presented our findings and recommendations alongside a proposed internal communications plan aligned to available budget and IT infrastructure. It involved concepts and content creation, design, local and national events, training and coaching in Intranet use, video creation and an ‘employee of the month’ award scheme.

The result

The plan and channel recommendations have been so successful that Close Brothers has committed to this way of working going forward, hiring two internal communications managers whom we support on a weekly basis. We also provide ongoing consultancy through an annual review. UKSV has become Close Brothers' trusted strategic communications partner.
